As part of the Anthracite Railroads Historical Society 1989 convention, this year's excursion featured the first run of the group's restored CNJ 56 EMD F3, ex-BAR 46, from Jim Thorpe to Haucks, PA and return on the Panther Valley Railroad. Although electrical issues prevented No. 56 from actually powering the train, its prime mover was running. Panther Valley Railroad 2930 U33B was in service on the east end powering the train.
