Cresting the long grade out of the Rio Grande valley at Belen, BNSF 5187 West is passing the classic Santa Fe signalling at Dalies, where the original mainline via Albuquerque joins the Transcon. In 1908 the Belen cut-off was completed, allowing traffic to bypass the steep grades of Raton and Glorieta passes on the origianl mainline for the less severe route through Abo Canyon and, eventually, Clovis and beyond.
