Delta history. After meeting Q194 at Lake Cormorant, a northbound CN freight rolls towards Memphis on the Y&MV line built in the late 1800's. To the left the original alignment of Highway 61 "The Blues Highway" built in 1926 cuts through Walls, MS. Even further to the left the newer 4-lane Highway 61 curves around Walls. Built in the 90's to accomodate Casino traffic to Tunica, the highway has seen better days as numerous billboards can be seen beckoning motorists to the 5 remaining financially struggling casinos. Highway 61 has a long history with blues musicians, most notably Robert Johnson is rumored to have sold his soul to the devil to be able to play the blues at the junction of HWY 61 and US 49.
