Remarks & Notes |
"The New East End of Platform C at SPG "
A CTrail train pulls down Track 6 to it's layover spot at Springfield Union station adjacent to the new high level Platfrom C. The east (north) end of the platform seen here was recently constructed from manually poured concrete separate from the rest of the platform which was made from prefabbed concrete sections. This was due to weight concerns on the overpass portion of the station which sits above Dwight Street. Springfield Union Station was originally constructed in 1926 by the Boston & Albany Railroad, but recently underwent a huge renovation project and was reopened in 2017 as the regions intermodal transit hub. The only renovation work that remains is the station platforms. Platform C is the first which serves trains on Tracks 4 and 6. Once completed, these high-level platforms will allow easier boarding & alighting for rail passengers. |
