2-8-4 "Berkshire" steamlocomotive 24 # 3655 of the Ceres Rail Company/Atlantic Rail (owned by Cape Western Vintage Railways) was built in 1948/49 by the North Britisch Locomotive Company(NBL) in a series of 100 for the South African Railways (SAR), with a sixaxle MY (Buckeye 3-axle bogies) tender of 9 ton coal and 20 ton water capacity. This class served for branch line services with a maximum axle load of less then 12 ton. The locomotive is pulling the mixed freight/passenger FarRail Tours special southbound on the Klawer line between Het Kruis and Droeryskloof, with the Piketberg mountains in the background. |
