Amtrak train 3, the westbound Southwest Chief, arrived in Fullerton on July 10, 2019, but departed on July 11, 2019. This train was running 17 hours late, and midnight passed as the train was unloading (and then reloading) passengers. It turns out that a number of passengers, who would have connected to a southbound Pacific Surfliner if the train had been on time (due into Fullerton at 6:54 am), got off expecting Amtrak to have held a Surfliner for them. And that didn't happen. They didn't even provide a bus to enable them to continue their journeys, so the crew had to get them back on board to continue on to Los Angeles (and through the miracle of schedule padding, the train arrived in LA only 16½ hours late!). And there is nothing as much fun as getting to downtown Los Angeles at 12:38 am and then having to look for a hotel!
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
