Amtrak Pacific Surliner 564 included a nice surprise on New Year's Day 2018 - Dome/Lounge 10031 "Ocean View." Built by Budd in 1955 as Great Northern 1391 "Ocean View," this car became Amtrak 9361 when that carrier was created in 1971. Amtrak would later renumber it 9361, and it became AMTKL 9300 when converted from steam heat to Head End Power (HEP). In April 1999 it was given its current number, 10031. This is the last dome car in Amtrak's fleet. When assigned to the Surfliners the dome is aptly named, as this train will skirt the Pacific Ocean for much of its trip to San Diego, and this equipment will turn and head north to San Luis Obispo, again running along the ocean in California's Central Coast area.
