Before they were famous! MBTA Commuter Rail EMD F40PH-2C 1054 was awaiting departure from Worcester, MA on Train 566 on Tuesday, October 26, 1999. This unit was one of ten recently rebuilt to F40PH-3C standards by MPI in Boise, Idaho and returned to MBTA for further service and is perhaps the most popular engine to photograph on the system today. While some railroads considered the F40s to be obsolete, others have found ways to overhaul them to extend their life cycle.
