"Red Devil" 26 # 3450 of the Transnet National Collection and operated by the Ceres Rail Company in the Worcester North depot area. This 4-8-4 "Northern" was built in 1953 by Henschel/Germany as 25NC class and heavily rebuilt by the english mechanical engineer David Wardale according the principles of the argentinian engineer Livio Dante Porta from 1979 to 1981 at Cape Town. It is the most powerful narrow gauge (1067 mm cape gauge) steamlocomotive of the world. Operational again since summer 2018. |
