On January 20, 2019, there are only three Amtrak F59PHIs left in Pacific Surfliner service. One of those, Amtrak 451, leads weekend train 1564 through the campus of Chapman College in Orange, California, passing between the tennis courts and Crean Hall. The Surfliners are interesting at this time, as one can still find F59PHs running, along with Amtrak P42DCs and CalTrans' new Siemens SC-44 "Charger" locomotives. (And, once per day, this trainset of Horizon Fleet and Amfleet cars operates, too.) Bringing up the rear of train 1564 is Amtrak Non-Powered Control Unit (NPCU) 90278, the former AMTK F40PH 278 converted to a cab car/baggage (and often referred to as "Cabbages").
Stretching from San Luis Obispo to San Diego, the Surf Line has become Amtrak's second busiest route. See the Pacific Surfliner and San Diegan in action along with trains from predecessors Santa Fe and Southern Pacific.
