Remarks & Notes |
UP's restored Big Boy is making its way back west towards the end of July after touring the Midwest. The train passed thru Iowa on July 30 thru August 2 on its westbound trip. The train laid over in Cedar Rapids on July 30th and now today the train is trekking west towards Des Moines for the next lay over on August 1st. Here the train pokes along as they wait for a coal train to clear a bridge at MP 113. The dispatcher was protecting the steam train over bridges with other trains since the Big Boy weighs in at a massive 625 tons. The crew requested the 3025 diesel crew to stop giving power here so the 4014 is doing the work climbing the grade into Luzerne. I was surprised how much work was requested from the 3025's crew to assist the Big Boy in power, braking, or maintain 40 mph track speed. |
