Most Metrolink trains heading east on BNSF's San Bernardino Subdivision in Fullerton diverge just beyond the station platforms to head south to Oceanside on Metrolink's Orange Subdivision, and these are Metrolink's Orange Line trains. But a few cross from Track 3 to Track 2 here at Fullerton Junction to continue east on the BNSF. These trains are Metrolink's 91-Perris Valley Line trains (formerly 91 Line trains before the line to Perris opened, named after the 91 Freeway that these trains parallel most of the way to Riverside. Train 704 is crossing over and will head east through Santa Ana Canyon to Corona and Riverside, and then diverge to Metrolink's line to Perris. (Perris is the home to a nice railroad museum, but unfortunately, service between Riverside and Perris does not operate on weekends.) Metrolink MP36PH-3C 880 leads this train, with cab car 687 bringing up the markers.
The worst of railroad design. Please, send me your entries / suggestions for the "Album of the ugly trains of the world" (past or present, paint scheme or shape).
