Remarks & Notes
Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe operated a fleet of 28 ALCO PA-1 passenger diesels (and 16 PB-1 diesels). In 1967, as the PAs were beginning to be replaced with new FP45s, U28CGs and U30CGs, four of Santa Fe's PA-1s were sold to the Delaware & Hudson Railway in the northeast. Rebuilt as "PA-4"s in 1975 by Morrison-Knudsen, these would become the final four PA to exist. All four PA-4s were sold to Nacionales de México. Eventually, two were returned to the United States and one was purchased by Doyle McCormick, who restored it to replicate Nickel Plate Road PA-1 190. NKP is Doyle's favorite railroad, even though he now lives in Oregon, taking care of several historic locomotives at the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation in Portland. (August 22, 2015)
