Amtrak train 564, running 18 minutes late as it heads south from Los Angeles to San Diego, is making the unusual move of crossing over at CP Maple from Track 2 to Track 1 (Track 1 is normally used for northbound trains). This is because there are two Metrolink trains operating just six minutes apart heading south on Track 2 (SCAX 682, out of Los Angeles, is 20 minutes late, and train 809, out of Riverside, is running 16 minutes late) and the dispatcher is going to run this Amtrak Pacific Surfliner around them, since Metrolink trains make more stops than Amtrak trains do. Considering how often I see dispatchers that are timid about such a maneuver, I was pleased to see such a pro-active move on the dispatcher's part. CDTX SC-44 2110 is leading this train, which consists of seven Amtrak Horizon cars, with AMTK NPCU 90278 and CDTX SC-44 2120 on the rear. (Orange, California - August 20, 2019)
