An eastbound BNSF Z train crosses the long single-track bridge over Lake Pend Oreille between Algoma and Sandpoint, Idaho, on the sunny afternoon of October 6, 2018. The train is on the busy “funnel” on BNSF’s Pend Oreille Subdivision between Spokane and Sandpoint, where tonnage divides at the junction with Montana Rail Link and Kootenai River Subdivision main line to the east.
