South Carolina Central Railroad owns a modest fleet of second-hand diesel locmotives, including a few GP40-2s that originated on the Detroit Toledo & Ironton. SCRF GP40-2 6415 is one of those, having been built in October 1973 (35 years prior to this photograph) as DT&I 415. In 1980, the DT&I was acquired by the Grand Trunk Western, which at first retained the DT&I reportinag marks on engines painted in GTW colors. In December 1983 the DT&I was completely assimilated into the GTW, and DTI 415 became GTW 6415. This engine was among a group sold by GTW (and their parent company CN) to Renewable Products Marketing Group (RPMX 6415), which in turn sold it to the South Carolina Central around the turn of the century. (Floyd, South Carolina - October 17, 2008) Photographed on railroad property with permission and full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
