Eighteen-month-old Norfolk Southern ET44AC 3672, along with NS Dash 9-44CW 9491, bring an empty ethanol train, NS 65E (originating in Kearny NJ), under the old Pennsylvania Railroad position light signals in Leetsdale, Pennsylvania, heading west toward Conway Yard. These old signals have served the Pennsy, Penn Central, Conrail and now NS for decades, but this day (September 21, 2019) will be the last full day of operation for these distinctive signals. The next day, September 22, 2019, these signals will be taken out of service and removed. The new signals can be seen behind the eastbound signal bridge in the foreground, and the tower for the new cantilever can be seen behind the westbound signal bridge the train is passing under. The new signals are already mounted on the horizontal section, which will be installed mid-day tomorrow once the old signals have been removed. (Thanks to Marc Lingenfelter for the train symbol and information on the signal change.)
