One of IC/ICG's rare GP28s - it's orange paint faded almost to pink - leads the daily train to Artesia, MS out of the yard. My best non-railfan buddy was with me on this trip, and he and the crew member running to throw the switch looked very much alike, and were dressed similarly that day. When I saw this slide for the first time, for just a moment I wondered 'why is my buddy running in front of the train. No wonder employees sometimes hate fans.'
Photos taken in the Deep South--primarily Alabama and Georgia--from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Featured railroads include the ICG, the West Point Route, SCL, Southern, Frisco, and even KCS.
