Switching the Rock Island yard in Amarillo, Texas, is RI SW8 826. The end-cab switcher was built for the railroad by General Motors Electro-Motive Division in November 1952, 20 years and 4 months before it was photographed on March 4, 1973. (Western Maryland GP9 29 was, at this time, on lease to the Rock Island.)
