Hitachi built bi-mode (diesel and 25 000 V 50 Hz AC) highspeed train (125/140 mph) 800 # 111 of the LNER (London North East Railway) (branded AZUMA) is leaving Edinburgh Waverley as train 1E14 via Newcastle-York to London Kings Cross. The journey time is 4 hours and 39 minutes with 10 stops. The LNER will operate 13 of this 9 car trains and 10 of the shorter 5 car version (class 800/2 # 201 to 210). In the moment, about half of the LNER trains on the East Coast mainline are operated by the new AZUMA trains, taken over from the class 91 electrics push-pull trains. |
