A KCS/NS runthrough heads west through downtown Birmingham behind a pair of GP40-3s bracketing a Norfolk Southern B23-7. Bringing up the rear is an ex-BN/BNSF GP40 that will soon get the Dash-3 redo. KCS used a variety of GP40s from other roads in their GP40-3 program, but 4799 started life as KCS GP40-2 799, delivered in August 1979.
Photos taken in the Deep South--primarily Alabama and Georgia--from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Featured railroads include the ICG, the West Point Route, SCL, Southern, Frisco, and even KCS.
