Having been in the area of Northern Maine Junction for most of the morning expecting just about any other train but this job, an engineer out of Brownville Junction would eventually drive himself down to NMJ only to take a turn job up to BJ before the day ended. The days of single-man crews were a very interesting and confusing time along the old Montreal, Maine & Atlantic. A fresh snow from the night before had blanketed the southern half of Maine, and speeds along the MMA main would provide some serious snow blasting at crossings along the way. I could feel this engineer's in smile as he hit the roadside piles at in Orneville Township at speed as I shot the pic and ducked for cover all in the same instant. Afterwards in a drift nearly waste deep, arms were fully extended in victory! You don't get many chances for that kind of well-timed moment in Winter too often, even in Maine!
