The MBTA's first F40PH seemed to be a fitting subject for my one thousandth photo on this site. MBTA 1000 was on its way out of Boston's South Station at rush hour with a string of ex-New Haven coaches, while a couple equipment drafts await their chance at a platform. Since steam heat isn't needed in July, an HEP locomotive can handle these old cars until the new push-pull equipment arrives.
The 70's and 80's were a transition period for the MBTA characterized by an eclectic mix of equipment including Budd RDC's, ex-New Haven stainless steel coaches, and a mix of motive power acquired from various railroads.
