Soo Line train 425 departs Pewaukee, Wisconsin, after meeting Amtrak 8 at the end of double track on January 15, 1995. A rare locomotive consist powers the train today, with Burlington Northern EMD SD60M No. 1991 leading an Oakway SD60 and a former Milwaukee Road “banditized” MP15. No. 1991 is specially-painted to honor U.S. troops serving in Operation Desert Storm in the Gulf War. A large seal of the United States graced the mostly white front of the locomotive. On the sides were large 11’ x 6’ oval logos that included words reading “Pulling For Freedom” and “Supporting Our Troops.” Yucky weather, but that can be expected in Wisconsin this time of year and No. 1991 adds some color to the gray day.
