Remarks & Notes |
Soo Line "Twin Ports" switchers working one of the elevators on Rice's Point in Duluth May 1980. Both units were built by EMD in September 1953 for the original Wisconsin Central. The 2119 was painted in the "Superior" scheme for Railroad Appreciation Day in Superior on October 6, 1978 and partly sponsored by the Superior Chamber of Commerce. The 2118 was painted into the "Duluth" scheme sometime in the fall of 1979. These two switchers worked the Twin Ports for a very short period of time and by the summer of 1980 they were both sent to Schiller Park and painted back into the standard Soo Line scheme. End cab switchers were never very popular with Soo crews in the Twin Ports and usually only stuck around for short periods of time. Four axle EMD Road units seemed to be the power of choice in Duluth and Superior. Lon Coone Photo from my collection. |
