The men and their machines....or.....The boys and their toys. The crew of our Texas State Railroad photo freight poses on the pilot of Tremont & Gulf Mikado #30 in the yard at Rusk, the eastern terminus of the Texas State Railroad. In the background is Southern Pine Lumber Co. #28, which is the Texas State Railroad's other "runner" at the moment, although at the time of this photo, she was not operational. Southern Pine Lumber #28 is a Baldwin 2-8-0, built in 1917. Until a few years ago, she was running as Texas State Railroad #300, and sporting a very gaudy red, black and gold paint scheme. Fortunately, the current management team at the Texas State has opted for a more authentic scheme for this engine.
