Junction City, WI is a small hamlet in the middle of the state where old US 10 parallels CN's Chicago-Duluth mainline and crosses CN's line from northern Wisconsin to New Lisbon, WI. The former was once Soo Line, the latter Milwaukee Road, both later became Wisconsin Central. Today CN keeps the rails shiny on both line, along with occasional trackage rights train by Union Pacific. There are four connections at this crossing, of which the least used is the west to north connection. Here a loaded ballast train led by CN 2835 pauses for a bit on the eastbound mainline. the track to the left is a passing siding and connection from east to south. I did not realize there was a crew on board, and was surprised a few minutes later after another eastbound overtook this train, to see the signal clear for the diverging route to the north...
