The Fresh Paint Smell! On a brisk MLK day, I find myself the Pan Am Southern/Providence and Worcester yard in Gardner, MA to photograph the “latest and greatest” from Pan Am. Here we see Pan Am train ED-9 departing the yard after receiving their pickup from the P&W, today’s power including freshly repainted MEC C40-8 #7561 leading its first train after being repainted. The classic “fresh paint smell” very prominent, the #7561 is Pan Am’s fourth C40-8 to get the well-known Pan Am “Blue Dip” paint scheme.
