As Amtrak Pacific Surfliner 578 departs Fullerton, California, on Track 3, the conductor seems transfixed by something off to the train’s right side. Meanwhile, some BNSF employees are inspecting a switch over on Track 1. Train 578 is crossing from BNSF’s San Bernardino Sub onto Metrolink’s Orange Sub as it makes its way from Los Angeles to San Diego – NPCU 90278 is about the only part of the train still on BNSF trackage.
