Remarks & Notes |
A heavy snow coats a pair of Denver & Rio Grande Western engines sitting in the yard of the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden, Colorado. D&RGW 683 (2-8-0) was built in 1890 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works and is the only surviving D&RGW Railroad standard gauge engine. D&RGW 5401 (SD40-T2) was built in 1980 and was known as a 'tunnel motor' due to the vents on the side of the engine designed to draw clean air when navigating the mountain terrain and the 31 tunnels of the Moffat Line. The Denver & Rio Grande Railroad purchased 73 of these T2 engines. |
