Remarks & Notes
MKT RS3M 153 switching at Parsons KS May 1970. The 153 was built as MKT 1560 in September 1951 and received a rebuild by EMD in September or October 1959. A new 567C prime mover was installed in the rebuild as well as a GP9 long hood due to the cooling system required with an EMD engine. The 1560 was renumbered 153 right after the rebuild and lasted on the Katy all the way until the merger with Union Pacific. It was finally retired in February 1989. These units looked quite burly with an EMD long hood and an Alco short hood. Unknown Photographer Photo from my Collection.
