Remarks & Notes |
Burlington Northern GP9M 1350 switching the flour mills in East End Superior October 1976. The 1350 was built as Great Northern 900 in February 1958 with parts from retired GN FT 249B. The prime mover and trucks were retained from the FT and were transplanted onto a GP9 frame and carbody. The GN classed these as GP5 due to the lower horsepower rating of 1350HP while EMD designated these a GP9M. Great Northern rostered 16 GP5s with the 900, 902, 914 and 915 assigned to Superior. The 1350 was one of the few unpainted units left on the roster by this time, eventually getting cascade green at West Burlington in March 1977. Robert C. Anderson Photo from my collection. |
