Remarks & Notes |
A mural under the Metra E111/Pullman Station on the former Illinois Central electric line protrays scenes for the industrial past of the neighborhood near the Pullman National Monument, National Park Service.
The City of Pullman was built by the Pullman Company in the 1880s to house its employees. Later, it was incorporated into the City of Chicago, and today is one of 77 defined "community areas". The Pullman National Monument was created in 2015 to preserve a two block area containing historic structures.
Pullman Foundation President (and former FRA Administrator) Joe Szabo recently announced $56 million in funding from public and private sources that will be used to recreate and restore the area's charter for future generations. |
