Pennsy Heritage in North Adams
As much as I always wanted a freight at the East Portal which I got for the first time on this day it was actually THIS was my favorite shot of the day.
This is the east portal of Hoosac's little (and older) brother, the 324 ft bore under Furnace Hill at CPF 423 on Pam AM's Freight Main just west of the bridge crossing the Hoosic River and the site of the former station.
Here is AD1's crew on train 16R with PRR heritage NS 8102 backing up to their train after picking up a locomotive and cut of local traffic off the old B&A Adams branch.
After lacing the air and making a brake test they'll be on their way headed east toward East Deerfield after taking a 4.75 mile trip more than 1000 ft beneath the summit of Hoosac Mountain. |
