Like The Old Days: NS autorack train 27W-29 travels east down the Richmondville Hill in Richmondville, NY on the NS D&H. This is an as-needed autorack train, this time being used to cover the eastbound loaded autorack detour to bypass the partially-collapsed Hoosac Tunnel on Pan Am Southern. The train will travel up the CP D&H from Saratoga Springs, NY to Whitehall, NY, over the VTR from Whitehall to Bellows Falls, VT, over the NECR from Bellows Falls to Millers Falls, MA, before finally rejoining the Pan Am for the remaining mileage to Gardner, MA where the autoracks would be handed off to the P&W for the remaining journey to SeaView in Rhode Island. With the VTR having heavy restrictions on 6-axle locomotives, this detour is powered by a matching quintet of veteran NS GP38-2s! Even better, the leader had an awesome Leslie RS5T. How often can you see that on a class one road freight nowadays?
