Remarks & Notes |
New Jersey Transit MP20B-3 1001 was built by Motive Power Industries from NJTR GP40FH-2 4130 (a GP40 rebuilt into a passenger locomotive with the cowl-hood from an old BN F45). NJTR 4130 was constructed from Conrail GP40 3058 (a former Penn Central diesel that was built in July 1967 as New York Central GP40 3058). Used primarily on Maintenance-of-Way trains and as "tow trucks" rescuing commuter trains with issues, NJ Transit’s MP20B-3s are the only non-height-restricted locomotives that NJ Transit owns that will operate into the Hudson Tunnels. That was a requirement of the MPI rebuild specifications in order to have a cab that could fit into the tunnels. (Hoboken, New Jersey - December 29, 2011) |
