Remarks & Notes
A tour of the Duluth-Superior harbor revealed this last remaining span of the former Great Northern Ry. interstate bridge between Duluth and Superior. Prior to about 1961 this bridge handled most vehicle traffic on U.S. 53 between the two cities. Vehicles operated on the outside of the truss while trains operated through the truss. My understanding is that Soo Line and C&NW used this as well as GN. People can still access this span to view water activities. Ships headed to Superior elevators, the coal docks and CN Duluth ore dock pass through here.
