Soo Line 6406 and 6408, acquired second hand, started life in January 1970 as Illinois Central SD40A locomotives. They were built on SDP45 length underframes which permitted the largest possible fuel tank at the time. Here the units are rolling around the connection at Duplainville, WI between SOO and WC to pick up some cars. This train ran east from Portage to Milwaukee typically stopping in mid to late afternoon to interchange cars. Below the crossing gate is the original SOO main, which became WC and is now CN's mmainline to Chicago. SOO is now CP and operates on the former MILW main in the background.
