As thunderstorms build across the Southwest, BNSF 7753 races a high priority Z train west out of Needles, California. The City of Needles lies in the arid desert along the California-Arizona border. The only things that seem to bring life to this small city (population 5,000) are the Colorado River, Interstate 40 and the BNSF Railway. Crews are swapped here at Needles as trains make the long journey across the BNSF Southern Transcon.
