Remarks & Notes |
While on vacation in Mauritius we visited L'Aventure du Sucre sugar museum and found this little loco there. Info display: The twin sister of this locomotive is classified as a historic monument in France and is a rare testimony to the glorious era of trains in Mauritius. This steam engine was manufactured in the early 1920's by Orenstein and Koppel A.G in Berlin, Germany and was imported by Beau Champ Sugar Estate in 1922. At that time the owner of this estate was Sir William Garthwaite and the locomotive was named accordingly: Sir William. Even though the locomotive is authentic, the wagons are imaginary. They pay tribute to this grandmother of engines that transported lots of heavy sugar canes convoys to the sugar factories. But the proposed refurbishment is genuine and tangible. |
