Remarks & Notes
Last man standing; that’s the Deseret Power Ry. The Black Mesa & Lake Powell is gone, as is the Escalante Western. There used to be quite a few dedicated commodity short lines in the mountain west. The Uintah, Nevada Northern, the Little Book Cliff, the Crystal River, Treasury Mountain, Bingham & Garfield, to name but a few. In recent years there have been only three dedicated coal lines in the area and two of those were electrified. Today only the 35 mile long Deseret Power Ry is left. This 35 mile long railroad sits astride the Colorado-Utah border and is the last electrified heavy haul railroad in the US. It is also my “home town railroad” and I have been photographing it since it was built in 1983. For most railfan's it is remote. For me, before I retired, I saw it several times a week. So, here is an ordinary Deseret Power train on an ordinary day doing its only job.
