Remarks & Notes
The long train of the FCAB with 40 cars and 80 round specialized containers for lead/zinc/silver concentrates from the San Cristobal mine in Bolivia to the port of Mejillones in Chile left the border station Ollagüe about two hours ago. Distance from the mine to the port is 650 kilometers, trainload about 2320 tons. Pulling are Clyde built GL26C-2 # 2005 and # 2010 from 1971 ex QR (Queensland Railway) and GT22CU-3 # 2402 built in 1963 (former FNC Ferrocarriles Nacionales de Colombia # 410, former STF Sociedad de Transportes Ferroviarios # 1210). The train is now tackling the ascent from the Salar de Ascotan (salt flat on about 3730 meter a.s.l.) to the Ascotan pass (3965 meter a.s.l.), highest point of the line. In the background is the Cerro Araral, 5647 meter a.s.l.

Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
