A Chicago bound WC freight out of Shops Yard, North Fond du Lac, WI heads along Marsh siding where it will pause for a meet with a northbound intermodal train. Marsh siding was a popular meeting place on the increasingly busy WC between Fond du Lac and Waukesha. Today this is part of CN's busy mainline between Duluth and Chicago. WC 3012 is former Western Pacific 3529, built in August 1971. The GP40s were a pleasant diversion from the dominant SD45 fleet. (Not complaining about SD45s though.)
Coal and steel don't go bad. This album features long, slow, heavy freight trains; drag freights, slop freights, dead freights, etc. Trains with lots of power, and lots of different cargo slogging along behind.
