"Passing Scrap at Bliss Yard"
Waste Management's Mother/Slug leads New York & Atlantic Railway's RS-40 past a retired LIRR M3 pair awaiting scrap at Bliss Yard in Long Island City, NY. As you can see, the M3 pair (LI 9781/ 9782) has been claimed by several local graffiti artists who continue to overlap each other's work. The Mother/Slug locomotive pair (USWX 400 & USWX 010) was purchased by Waste Management and built by Knoxville Locomotive Works (KLW) for use by New York & Atlantic Railway's Yard jobs which have the primary task of serving two of Waste Management's transload locations in New York City. The "mother" unit, USWX 400 is a KLW SE23B-M (NZE23B) Tier 4 locomotive and the "slug", USWX 010, is a SE23B-S. The SE23B-M (NZE23B) is a member of KLW's "Near Zero Emission Single Engine Locomotive" Series offering low emissions, low fuel consumption, and superior tractive effort performance.
