Union Pacific’s LUH45 Local, popularly known as the Dirt Train, is seen here sitting on the east leg of the wye at the junction the Castle Valley Spur with the main line Green River Sub. As I drove down the highway towards Wellington, I saw a headlight at the Savage loadout at the end of the spur. I quickly turned around and by the time I got back to the wye the train had moved up close to the mainline. The conductor was out at the end of the short train attending to the FRED. In the meantime, an empty coal train that I had seen at Helper Yard on the way down here had arrived and was stopped on the main line short of the wye, waiting for the Dirt Train to clear. I took this view and then left to photograph the Dirt Train out in the desert near Mounds.
