CN 387 running west between St. Catherines and Hamilton, ON hit an open switch that had been tampered with by vandals. 387 lead by a CN 9404, 4523, 4524 and 4573 hit the switch and derailed piling up the units and a significant number of cars behind them. The crew survived as did the 9404 and the Geeps which were later rebuilt into GP9 RMs.
