| The late winter scenery can look pretty bleak in the southern West Virginia coal fields. The mountain of coal slag in the background will look the same even in spring and summer months. But there is no denying that this is former Norfolk & Western territory. From the many color position light signals to the remains of the coaling tower. NS 8712 is eastbound with a coal train heading for Bluefield. This is a scene that has been repeated many times over the last 100 years. |
