Union Pacific’s “Dirt Train” local is just now reaching the lower, west, end of the East Carbon Development’s (ECDC) small yard at East Carbon City, Utah. Today’s train has big power. An SD70Ace leading and UP 7078, a C44/60AC, trailing. That 7078 will be the leader on the trip back to Helper as there is no place to turn the consist at ECDC. The view west here at East Carbon City is beautiful today. Clear air and snow cover make the Wasatch Plateau, over 30 miles away across the Castle Valley really stand out. The top of the plateau averages over 8800’ elevation with the highest peak at 11,263’.
