Remarks & Notes |
Spring snow in the mountains can mean several feet. March traditionally is Colorado’s snowiest month and on this March 19-20th was no exception to the rule. The Moffat Tunnel Subdivision was plagued with heavy wet snow in excess of 28” reported at Crescent. Slide fences and power outages kept the crews busy for days to reopen the line. On the 21st the sun characteristically returned to the Flatiron range and the high country revealing a winter wonderland of heavy flock and deep snow on every conceivable surface. A difficult hike in snow shoes to tunnel 2 and my UAV for the climbing helped me capture one of the most dramatic winter scenes on the Moffat Road deep in the Tunnel District. Here Amtrak’s California Zephyr with its bright stainless steel cars shimmer in the bright sun against the deep snow as they go through the Flatirons not around them. Shot on Inspire 2. |
