A layover in Amsterdam afforded me an opportunity to ride to Utrecht, which I had read was the home of the Netherland Railway Museum. As it turns out, I was more inclined to stay near the station in Utrecht and photograph the action than to get to the museum. As it turns out, preparations were being made for the celebration of the 150th anniversary of railroading in the Netherlands. As an Alstom Class 2400 switches the freight yard, two veteran (1950’s era) locomotives are moving around nearby. The nearest one is number 1502, named Electra, former British Rail number 27000. The far one is NS 1125 in its 1950 appearance. Today, Electra has been repatriated to the UK at the Midland Railway at Butterley, and the 1125 is in the museum at Utrecht.
